Perfect Iced Tea

Ah, my summer must have - iced tea. I used to buy the jugs of tea or make a reason to go out just to be able to pass McDonalds and get a sweet tea. While it tasted delicious, I was sick of eating the price of a gallon or two a week. And have you seen the price of gas lately? I decided to set off in the direction of finding how to make delicious iced tea at home.

Making this iced tea is really more of a process. You can adapt it to the amount that you want. I make a batch and a half. I find that it fills my pitcher perfectly. To get the original recipe, click on the link here

Pour 6 cups of water into a pot and bring to a boil. Once boiling, add the tea bags and take off of heat to steep. I make a batch and a half, so I add 12.

Set the timer for 10 minutes - no more, no less. Why? Increased time means increased bitterness. Any less and you will not get the wonderful jolt of caffeine that makes iced tea wonderful.  Walk away and fold some clothes, water your garden, or do a 10 minute exercise on the TV.

When the 10 minutes is up, take the tea bags out of the water and escort them to the trash can. Their job here is done.

Place 6 cups of cold water into the vessel of your choosing. For me, it's my favorite unbreakable pitcher. I may have dropped this thing on my toe about 20 times since I've had it. Add 3/4 cup of sugar and stir to dissolve.

To review:
- Boil 6 cups of water and add 12 tea bags. Take off heat and allow to steep.
- Set timer for 10 minutes.
- Add 6 cups of cold water to vessel of choice. Pour in steeped tea.
- Pour in 3/4 cup of sugar and stir to dissolve.
- Place in refrigerator or enjoy immediately in a glass of ice.

Now grab a glass of ice, pour yourself some deliciousness, and sit on the back porch and marvel at how quickly your garden is growing. Don't have one? Borrow mine!
